Local Funding

In 2012, the Northern Kentucky Area Development District (NKADD) was granted funds from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish a revolving loan fund for brownfield cleanups throughout the NKADD service area of Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen and Pendleton counties.

There are two ways to access money in the NKADD Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund (BRLF):

Grants - Public entities including local governments, quasi government agencies and nonprofits (501c3) are eligible for grant funding.

Loans - Both public and private entities, including nonprofits, are eligible to apply for loans from the fund.

Site eligibility closely follow federal EPA brownfield grant requirements. Properties purchased by an entity that adhered to the ALL Appropriate Inquieies (AAI) assessment rules and had an AAI performed no longer than six months prior to purchase of the property are potentially eligible for funding.  The owner cannot be a responsible party.

All grant and loan recipients must have a cleanup plan approved by the cabinet.  This does not have to be in place at the time of application.  No cleanup cost will be approved for reimburesement unless there has been an approved plan.  Grant reipients must also provide a 50-percent match to the funds they recieve.  For more information, please refer to the Request For Proposals.

The Northern Kentucky Brownfield Redevelopment Program is accepting grant applications for brownfield cleanups starting March 1, 2016.  The program will be awarding $295,000 in grants. Applicants may request up to $50,000 for a single site.
