Northern Kentucky Area Development District:
Kentucky’s fifteen Area Development Districts comprise a statewide network of multi-county planning and development organizations. We serve as a forum, clearinghouses, technical center, convener for the region and provide continuity to projects during the transition of local elected officials. The ADDs strive to foster regional strategies, solutions and partnerships that achieve sustainable economic growth and improve the overall quality of life for the citizens of Kentucky. Unlike many other organizations structured along multi-jurisdictional lines, the ADDs have both federal and state statutory authority (KRS 147A). The Northern Kentucky Area Development District was organized and held it's first Board meeting in September, 1971.
Brownfields
The Brownfields program began in 2009 when the the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) awarded the Licking River Greenway (LRG) Brownfield Coalition a $200,000 Petroleum Assessment Grant. That grant was successfully closed out in 2012. In 2014, the USEPA awarded coalition partners NKADD and the Cities of Covington and Newport $600,000 for Hazardous Assessments. This project is currently running.
Revolving Loan Fund
The Northern Kentucky Area Development District offers this innovative program through an $800,000 grant provided by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). The BRLF offers a number of options to developers, cities, property owners and other community stakeholders interested in the cleanup of brownfield properties.
